How to Activate the Inactive FASTag? Recover Account

There are several reasons why a FASTag might become inactive. Here are some of the most common:

1. Insufficient Balance: If there isn’t enough balance in your FASTag wallet, the FASTag will be declined and become inactive until you recharge it.
2. Expired Validity: Similar to debit cards and credit cards, FASTags have validity. If this period, the tag will automatically become inactive. You’ll need to renew it.
3. Blacklisted: If you misuse the FASTag (e.g., tampering with it, using it on more than one vehicle) or fail to pay tolls repeatedly because of a low balance, it might be blacklisted by the issuer or authorities.
4. KYC Incomplete: Ensure your KYC is complete for continued usage.

There are 2 easy ways to activate the FASTag. One is online, and the other is an offline method. Read below to understand which is a more suitable way for you. 

Offline FASTag Activation:

When FASTag is purchased offline from certified banks, the following are the steps you need to follow to activate your FASTag:

• You first have to visit the nearest FASTag issuing bank and approach them for an application form for FASTag.
• Submit the FASTag form with the Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), a passport size photo, and KYC documents.
• Your pre-activated FASTag will be delivered to you within 7-8 working days by the certified bank.
• You will be provided with a Welcome Kit that has a tag sticker (peel the sticker to put it at the center of the windscreen on your vehicle) and login credentials for the FASTag customer portal.
• The login credentials can be used to recharge the FASTag account. 

Online FASTag Activation

You can purchase FASTag from an online e-commerce store or POS (Point of Sale) location and activate the FASTag online itself. A few simple steps are involved in how to start FASTag online:

• Download the My FASTag app on your mobile device from Google Play for Android or the App Store for iOS. 
• You will see ‘Activate NHAI FASTag’ displayed on the app homepage; please see the icon. 
• Then, select the e-commerce site from where you purchased the FASTag.
• You can scan the QR code on the FASTag or manually enter the 24-digit FASTag ID, which is displayed at the bottom of the tag; with this, your FASTag will be activated instantly.
• You can link your bank account to the FASTag after the activation. This is how you can pass an ETC booth where the toll fare will be automatically deducted.
